OK, so the debs were created but you haven't installed anything.
Just go to the home folder and find linuxcnc-uspace_2.8.0... .deb, double click it and choose Install.
You might want to install the docs too.

Hi
Now it works. I had to go to my personal folder and unpack the linuxcnc-uspace-2.8.0.... package. And then I made it like cncnoob1979 in the blue notice. Very fine, but it lasted a long time to do everything.
Thanks for your help! It is great to have such a forum!
Greetings from Switzerland
Daniel

Hi everyone, I've run into bit of an problem trying to use this guide to install Linuxcnc on Ubuntu Gnome 16.04. I first tried the install on 64bit, then switched to 32bit in case that was the issue.

I am following post 2 and I manage to install everything without any errors, until I start up linuxcnc. Running it from the command line and choosing the standard axis sample configuration, I get this output:
Code:
chris@chris-desktop:~$ linuxcnc LINUXCNC - 2.8.0~pre1 Machine configuration directory is '/home/chris/linuxcnc/configs/sim.axis-1' Machine configuration file is 'axis.ini' Starting LinuxCNC... You can find more information in the log: /home/chris/linuxcnc_debug.txt and /home/chris/linuxcnc_print.txt as well as in the output of the shell command 'dmesg' and in the terminal chris@chris-desktop:~$

Linuxcnc starts and shows the splash screen, and then crashes. I tried tklinuxcnc as well, in case it was a graphics issue, but that had the same result.

Another thing to note is that Latency test gives no output, it runs fine, however, all values remain at zero.

Any help with the matter would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer to get this running using Ubuntu Gnome, seeing as i am using a 22 inch touch screen and would prefer the interface of Gnome.

Thanks, Chris.

This is my Dmesg output, I had to upload it to pastebin, the forum claimed it had too many links in it.

Hey Chris!

Sorry you are running into trouble.

I have not tried that kernel version you compiled. Let's see if we can narrow this down a bit.

Are you using an intel processor? Is this a virtual machine?

I'm using an Asrock motherboard with a built in j3355 dual core Intel Celeron processor. It's not a virtual machine either.

The standard Wheezy ISO runs perfectly. I tried the 4.9.4 kernel as well. Will try to use the 4.8 kernel this week and report back here.

Okay so kernel 4.8.11-rt7 works perfectly. Neither of the 4.9 kernels worked for me at all.

Thanks for all the help and the great guide that you provided though! I'll be sure to inquire here again if I have other issues.

Glad you got it to work for you Chris,

Are you up and running Linux mint now, if not there is a testing live cd with debian stretch here.

www.linuxcnc.org/testing-stretch-amd64-rtpreempt/

You could try this install as well. I do find that Linux Mint has the best out of the box experience of the other distros.

I had a go with Mint KDE, and got linuxcnc running, however, I switched to Ubuntu Gnome for the big touch screen friendly buttons and on screen keyboard.

Are any of the Linux Mint desktop packages well suited to touch screens?

The Debian Stetch image seems tempting, if not a little unstable?
