Should I install this package:
packages.debian.org/stretch/kernel/linux...rs-4.9.0-13-rt-amd64

Will try this tonight..
Frans

Yes you can safely install that package and check if you can make the wifi work, although i would just ditch the wifi, but since the new installation procedure (if anything goes wrong) is short, give it a try.

I personally would through that Tplink wifi dongle as far as I could throw it. The Asus Nano is cheap as chips and works out of the box as far back as Mint 17.3 as do most other wifi dongles. I have not had a good run with TPLINK

I use a lot of TPlink ones and have no issues besides a very weak signal compared to built in cards on my laptops.

Hi all,

Thanks for your responses on the TP Link WiFi USB adapter.
I finally got it to work, using the links I referred to above (installing the correct Linux Headers and using dkms scripts to install and build the module).
It took a lot of steps to add the dependent packages, and also to get the right version of the RTL8812au module active in my system.
But at the end it worked. I need to verify whether I didn't break anything else in my system, and I will capture my steps for future usage.

Hello, my name is Rudolf and I installed everything as written on the first side of this thread, but whenever I start with the "Linux Mint 20 Xfce, with Linux 4.9.0-13-rt-amd64" Kernel the display resolution is 800x600.
I cannot mend this, has anyone an idea to solve this problem?

Further Infos:
The RT-Kernel and LCNC are working fine.
Motherboard: J4005B-ITX, graphic card onboard
CPU: Intel Celeron J4005, 2x 2.00GHz, 4MB Cache, 10W TDP

Okay, I opened terminal and "xrandr" says following:

xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 800 x 600, current 800 x 600, maximum 800 x 600
default connected 800x600+0+0 0mm x 0mm
800x600 75.00*

Try this:
Code:
sudo apt update - wget http://http.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/l/linux-signed-amd64/linux-image-5.4.0-0.bpo.4-rt-amd64_5.4.19-1~bpo10+1_amd64.deb - sudo gdebi linux-image-5.4.0-0.bpo.4-rt-amd64_5.4.19-1~bpo10+1_amd64.deb
Reboot. See if the video works.

... yes now it works!
[strike]But whenever I restart, the old display resolution 800x600 again is present.[/strike]

...no it works, there is a new kernel (5.4.0-0.bpo.4-rt) now isnt it? With the new kernel it works....

So far so good. I haven't tried to run my mill, but all the software is in place. I'm using the same machine. I saved the configuration files before the install. If I put them back in my home directory will the new install pick up the old settings?

Also should I do updates in the LinuxCNC kernel?
