4th and 5th axes fail to function

I'm using Pncconf Wizard to add 4th and 5th axes to Mesa 7i76e hardware.  X, Y, and Z are using Clearpath SDSK servos and are functioning.  The 4th and 5th axes are using DM542T (version 4) drivers.  When connected to another machine, the steppers and drivers are working properly.  Axis A does not respond in the wizard.

Can you check that 5v is selected with the switch on the drive?

You are the second reporting issues with this drive

Funny, you should mention that :) The other machine I used to do the test is a rose engine for which I designed the hardware and firmware. It can use onboard drv8825 drivers or external drivers. Last week one of the users installed the DM542T v4 driver and couldn't get them to work. I finally convinced him that even though the drivers were using 24v to power the steppers, the logic was 5v.

Did they work when set to 5 volts?

The drivers work when set to 5v on the rose engine, but not with the 7i76e and Linuxcnc. I'm using a single 24v power supply for the 7i76e and the steppers. (The servos use 75v). I've tried supplying 5v to the Enable pins on the driver, but that didn't change the behaviour from not having any connection to the Enable pins.

Very strange. I've used the DM542A from Longs Motors for years and they perform really well. I did hear some DM542's from other suppliers were not so good so I was fussy with brands.

I have had one other drive fail to run on my 7i76e which was a 2 amp Sanyo Denki Nema 24 on a throttled back 6 amp LAM Technologies DS1076a but it ran fine on a 3 amp Lam DS1073a so I worked around it.

All I can think of is 24 volts is close to the minimum voltage of 20 volts.
I am contemplating purchasing some DM542's from rtelligent who have a version that will handle my 60V AC toroid. Seems like brand definitely matters!

Do the motors wired to 542 lock when power is applied?
If yes, set the step time and step space to at least 5000 in the ini file and test again.

I'd be surprised if that makes a difference as this is what I was using. But on a different brand of DM542
Code:
DIRSETUP   = 500 DIRHOLD    = 500 STEPLEN    = 2500 STEPSPACE  = 2500

And this is what is in the users ini file posted earlier
Code:
DIRSETUP = 10000 DIRHOLD = 10000 STEPLEN = 5000 STEPSPACE = 5000

Well, I can't see any big differences in the .hal and .ini files, but the 4th and 5th axes are working now. I removed the wires to the Enable pins and set microstepping to 8 in the wizard. I also added the B axis by copying the A axis.
