Looking for a super small Linux-Version?

Is there a super-minimal LinuxCNC installation available? When I install the Debian-LinuxCNC ISO, all sorts of programs—such as LibreOffice, games, multimedia apps, etc.—get installed along with it. Isn't there an OS version that installs truly only the bare essentials? No one needs LibreOffice, games, or anything like that on the machine.
Thanks,
Hans.

You can do as follows:
1. Download the Debian 13 installer.
2. During installation, deselect all window managers so that the system installs in text mode.
3. Do apt install xfce4-desktop linux-image-rt-amd64 linuxcnc (I'm writing from memory, maybe it needs to be done a little differently).
The system installed in this way will fit on an 8 GB disk.
It won't be comfortable to use, but LinuxCNC will work properly.

Strange, LibreOffice is excluded from the Debian Live-build ISO we create
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc-live-build/...e-lists/desktop.list
I don't know of any games installed.

Is there a super-minimal LinuxCNC installation available?
-CoolCNC 50MB ISO
-Debian Dog 350MB ISO
-Ubuntu 10.04 700MB ISO
All are still usable and functional, all can still be downloaded, and all can run machines just fine, except EtherNET Mesa cards.

You can download and install ANY distro that is derivative of Debian and install LinuxCNC on it, from the latest Debian Pup, to several other "lite" distros that i would not consider lite at all.
Almost all of them will work in Live mode, so download, boot, test, and if you like it install it and LinuxCNC with:
Code:
sudo apt update sudo apt install linuxcnc-uspace

I really don't understand why you write such things.Out of boredom and curiosity,
I recently tried to install CoolCNC, so I know what it real looks like.
Apart from the fact that EMC2 from 2005 bears little resemblance to LinuxCNC from 2026, it is practically impossible to install it on a modern computer, because the creators of kernel 2.4 were not clairvoyant and did not even foresee such inventions as SATA or a USB keyboard/mouse.

Hello,
I’ve installed the DebianNetInstall.iso without a desktop environment, and then installed the real-time kernel, LCNC, Openbox, and a very simple file manager via the terminal. It seems to be working—very low jitter.
