Back or front tool

Machine sets itself up in back tool mode as that is called up in ini file .
For RH thread I could use threading tool reversed in back tool and reverse the spindle but it is then prone to saddle lift,

Hence this question. Will maybe get a chance to try G10 and R180 over the weekend . Sounds like we are in for grotty weather.

Right so called up G10 L2 P06 R180 and it tells me " invalid parameters in linear command"
And "linear move on line 13 would exceed Y's positive limit " And I dont have a Y axis ???????
Line 13 calls up G0 X10 Z10 both within limits.

Help please ??

just a curious question.
Did you try to enter a negative pitch while in back tool lathe mode?

By the way, this is not a gmoccapy behavior, it seems to be a trajectory planer issue.

Hi Norbert
I did not try a negative pitch .
I thought that would just alter the z motion and I can do that by specifying a negative start and and cutting toward z positive ..
Will give it a try though and report back.

Will also try setting a negative thread depth and if that does not work maybe a negative regression. Must look at the code for internal threads canned cycle to see if any clues there.

As a last resort you could also setup two switchable kinematics.

Diameter stuff shouldn't care, as smaller-X = smaller-dia regardless of front or back tool.

There is a difference though
To reduce diameter with back tool x minus requires the saddle to move downwards where as this has to be reversed for front tool.

That's a config thing if there is only one toolpost. If there are both front and back toolposts, then, yes, it's complicated.

Compicated ? or impossible ?
If complicated then a few pointers might be nice

Do you actually have both front and back toolposts?

One workaround is to program one toolpost in negative X. it's a bit of a kludge.
