2.0 install overtop of 17.3

I'm attempting to do a 2.0 install and failing miserably
1100 mill but non-tormach controller. (hp)

The PP2.0 USB will not boot on this controller or it's sister (another hp) but a "normal" linux USB boots and installs fine, and this PP USB will boot on another asus machine just fine.

Would / should it be possible to install linux 17.3 and then "restore" PP off the USB without needing to boot from it?

The USB stick like the DVD has a GHOST image on it. so if you can find a way to restore that image i'm sure you could. keep in mind the ghost image is specific to that utility. you can't to my knowledge dd a ghost image.
