Testing Encoder with Halmeter

I am setting up a spindle encoder in PathPilot with a 7i80. I have it hooked up and can see the encoder count up and down correctly in halmeter but I cannot see the index signal.

Halmeter says the index is NOT enabled. I have the following in the HAL file

net spindle-position hm2_7i80.0.encoder.00.position => motion.spindle-revs
net spindle-velocity hm2_7i80.0.encoder.00.velocity => motion.spindle-speed-in
net spindle-index-enable hm2_7i80.0.encoder.00.index-enable <=> motion.spindle-index-enable
setp hm2_7i80.0.encoder.00.scale 400

Is there anything else I have to setup to enable the index signal ??

To check the index, monitor spindle-index-enable with halmeter and then:

halcmd sets spindle-index-enable
(spindle-index-enable should be true)
rotate the spindle by hand
(spindle-index-enable should go false at the index location)

Yes, you do this from a terminal window when LinuxCNC/PathPilot is running
You can also do this via halshow in the GUI but its a bit more awkward

HUM that is hard to in PathPilot as when you have Halmeter up and do anything in PathPilot it pushes teh Halmeter stuff BEHIND teh main screen where you cannot see it.
