ECAM 5 POST Processors was created by gravedigger
I’m just getting started with LinuxCNC and have switched over from Mach4. I’ve been using the Italian ECAM 5 software and would like to continue using it. How different is the G-code between Mach and LinuxCNC? What are the main differences?

The G-code is not very different and for the most part should work.
The biggest difference is that you should set a path blending tolerance at the start of the g-code in Linuxcnc. This will be a g-code line something like G64 P0.001 Q0.001.
Other differences will be with sub program calls and O-codes and canned cycles. But unless you are doing parametric g-code (unlikely with CAM produced code) it won't matter.
Linuxcnc's G-code is also similar to a lot of Fanuc code, and with similar exceptions as with Mach3.

Hi All,
Have you been using E-CAM for mill or lathe?

I used eCAM 5 and I'm happy with it, now I got the new 6 for a small CNC. I don't use it much, it's not my job, but the lathe part, according to a friend who uses it on a CNC lathe that we retrofitted together, is excellent.

I also use E cam
i have a post i modified main things i had to fix are threading g33.
everything else in the post i have checked works well i use it on a production cnc lathe running linuxcnc.
Ecam is absolutely awesome. way better than fusion 360 lathe cam in my opinion and i used both for 2 years
my post currently still has one issue left. when using g97 constant spindle speed the post still outputs a D value for max speed. and linuxcnc throws a error on this so currently i just delete that code from the file. but it's on the list to fix at some stage.

Although simple code from a simple postprocessor will be executed correctly on both machines, this should be considered the exception, not the rule.
In extreme cases, running a foreign code will result in damage to the machine or injury to the operator, because there are codes that are written identically but executed differently. Such code will not generate an error, only unexpected movement.

Basically, you should consider the g-code for Mach4 and LinuxCNC to be incompatible and under no circumstances run programs from one machine on the other. How different is the G-code between Mach and LinuxCNC? What are the main differences?
