I am attempting to switch from axis to to the new qtvcp interface, but not succeeding too well, mainly because I don't know what I am doing. I get a CRITICAL message telling me no preferences file found, enable preferences in screenoptions widget.
I am following the SilverDragon GUI instructions but cannot get started as I keep getting this error, and what is screenoptions widget

I assume you are using linuxcnc 2.8 version.

in your INI file,
under the heading {DISPLAY}
make sure you have something like:
PREFERENCE_FILE_PATH = WORKINGFOLDER/qtdragon.pref

If you still get an error, please post the exact error message and your config files.

I thought I had attached the error report, I'll try again and add the configs, I do have this PREFERENCE... line in my DISPLAY section, I even created a blank file with the correct name just in case.., does it matter where the preference files goes?

It doesn't matter where the preference file is but you need to use an absolute path or use the special code I posted.

The actual error is :
pyvcp_options.hal:7: Pin 'pyvcp.spindle-speed' does not exist

QTVCP screens can not load pyvcp panels into them selves.
You must comment out the loading of the pyvcp_options.hal file.

probably the command would be found in postgui_call_list.hal

cannot see my earlier response, but thanks again, I commented out the pyvcp lines and the halui reference to post_gui halfile and it is now working, I was highly amused when I randomly picked a supplied file called daisy and ran it to hear the stepper motors playing the tune "daisy daisy", wish my talents extended to that.

There is a channel on youtube where they play all kinds of music using stepper motors on floppy drives and scanners named flopytron or similar.
