I tried that once.

Found I got more out of it by reading the parts I was trying to sort out at the time. Then putting what I learnt into practise.
I found the Hal part really good, especially working through some of the examples.
I admit I find the online HTML manual easier to navigate.
That’s not to say I have a small pile of printed pages of the PDFs with notes scribbled on them. Just don’t ask me to find them real quick.

rodw post=213405 userid=20660Try this link
linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/hal/comp.html

Also review how some of the simplest components are written (eg and2.comp) and play around compiling a couple

github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/tree/master/src/hal/components

Thanks rodw I will give it a shot. I will also try BeagleBrains idea. Good thing I don't have to have the new system operational tomorrow.

He retired from the forum over the new code of conduct.

tommylight post=212921 userid=17274Building the machines! :)

well tommylight after thinking about your statement I have to fully agree with you . Yes building the
machines no mater what they are is more enjoyable, though the challenge can be daunting at times.
Because I now find myself thinking about what next to run on linuxcnc as if a Mill, a Lathe, and a Pick and Place
weren't enough. LOL

Well this was unexpected. The laptop currently running the Mach3 on the mill decided it had enough.
Now I have to scramble to get the G0619 switched over to Linuxcnc. Fortunately I already have most of the
parts to do it . I have a Dell Optiplex 9020m for the computer. A new 7i76e board ready to go.
A  new larger controller box 24" x  20" x 8" ready for holes. I have an adapter board to control the spindle .
I can salvage most of the parts from the current control box .  However I need to get some power supplies.
It's always something.

Usually i would say "i am sorry for your loss", but not for this ... :)
Edit:
Cr@p, i should have said "i do not blame the laptop, poor thing... "
To late! :)

LOL. I don't blame the laptop for giving up either. It's just the timing was a little
inconvenient.

PSST . it seems the processor cooling fan failed. I just needed an excuse .

To bad you are far, i have 5 of them at my reach right now, Brother moved to USA so he found it prudent to leave 2 of them to me, as if i did not have enough!
The also bad thing is they suck for LinuxCNC, latency is utterly useless.
