Pathpilot Glade idiots guide was created by Dorro1971
Hi Folks,
Is there an idiots guide for Pathpilot with Glade?..
I have Pathpilot 2.4 installed and working I even managed to create a custom bitfile for my 7i92.
I'm just getting nosy and would like to poke around the GUI a little bit.
I have installed gtksourceview as it didn't seem to be part of the install but it looks like the gui was created with Glade 2.16.0 as it complains about the current version (3) and some widgets are deprecated when i analyse it.
I edited the source to change requirements to Glade3 but the deprecated widgets are still not present..
I also tried installing Glade 2.16.0 with some success but now gtksourcview catalogs are unavailable and the gui cannot be loaded.
I'm a little stuck from here and also pretty new to linux so any help would be great.
On the plus side, my lathe is fully functional have simulated a tool turret and with a little arduino work that will be my next project.
I have fitted Baumer MY-Com switches to the x and z axis and now homes perfectly to a micron or 3 every time.
Anyhow, thanks for a great forum..and any help ...

when you edit the glade file, glade doesn't know about the PP environment yet.
to let it know and before running glade run ~tmc/scripts/rip-environment.sh
then run glade. i suggest running glade from cmdline
so
~tmc/scripts/rip-environment.sh
glade ~/tmc/python/images/tormach_mill_ui.glade
see if that helps
if you run into this error
./rip-environment.sh: line 146: /home/operator/tmc/scripts/venv/bin/activate: No such file or directory
edit rip-environment.sh and find activate
comment it out
it should work fine even if you don't but if you want to get rid of the error
so change this
# must activate virtualenv for python packages
source $EMC2_HOME/venv/bin/activate
to this
# must activate virtualenv for python packages
# source $EMC2_HOME/venv/bin/activate

Thank you so much smgvbest.
I tried your advice but got an error at line 82 "cannot return from a function"
so i commented out the return statement...and then the whole case condition
along with line 146.
Sadly i still get "Failed to load /home/operator/v2.4.3/python/images/tormach_mill_ui.glade.
The following required catalogs are unavailable: gtksourceview"
I can install gtksourceview but then some widgets are depracted.
I can install an earlier version of glade but then gtksourceview is missing.
I thought it might simply be a case of opening the file with glade but it seems not..I don't really get all the commands that i need to enter just top open a file so i think i will continue editing the xml file.
Like I mentioned I have my machine running after building a custom bitfile and modifying hal so I'm just being nosey, that and my display is 1360X768 so i thought i could "stretch it" lol.
Thank you once again for your time, I think i need to build a gui from scratch to understand what's going on.......
Cheers, Ian

I'm not sure what the repurcussions are but by deleting the line in .glade that says gtksourceview required I can now load the tormach-mill file. I installed glade 2.4, run it using glade-gtk2.

I found the catalog file! opensuse.pkgs.org/tumbleweed/gnome-next-...1.17.x86_64.rpm.html .
I extracted the catalog file using zstd, it is attached for your viewing pleasure.
sudo cp the file to /usr/glade3/catalogs and you are set to go. As before use glade-gtk2 to edit the gui.
