Large CNC routers What brand to convert was created by my1987toyota
This is more of a question then anything else. I am trying to get an idea of a price for a
large CNC router table something in the range of 4FT by 8FT working area to convert
to linuxcnc for cutting soft materials including metals.
Has anyone done this yet?
If so what brand of router did you select and why ?

Where are you from ? if you are in Europe, follow surplex for offers.
If you have a large room, choose a large industrial machine. Without aluminum profiles.

I am in the US. If I use aluminum it would be a minimum of 1/2" or 13mm plate .
I know those extrusions only really work on small machines on softer materials
like plastic and wood.

I have a mate in NZ who has retrofitted a lot of big machines including routers. Often he just buys new servos out of China if the ones on it don't work for about NZD $400 (0-10 volt). His latest project is 5 axis horizontal and weighs 40 tonnes..... if he can get it home...

I would agree with BesriWorld, get an old industrial one and go to town with it.... no no not literally !
Biesse, German made, avoid Italian made ones they tend to have messy wiring.
Some other German made with 3 letter names that i keep forgetting...
Those are high quality machines made to be used 24/7/52/365 and can be found dirt cheap as the service and maintenance is prohibitively expensive, but we have Mesa and LinuxCNC.
Buying those thin flappy ones for $20000-30000 is a no go, there is a recent video on youtube where some poor schmuck bought it and compared it to literally burning money.
I felt sorry for him.
Get a Biesse Rover 346

Check weight before plunging in...

WOW some of the ones available look massive. I would figure a Biesse, Laguna, or a CR Onsrud
would fit the bill nicely.

Pretty sure the 346 weighs in at 5 tons, so it is huge!
Apparently it weighs 7 tons or 14000 pounds, as noted below by Bevins, thank you.
