I always burn them with win32siskmanager that was not the problem the pc was loaded with a few configs and I changed the monitor that seemed to indicate it was a res. problem as it was fine at the flash screen but would not work after that just a flashing cursor.
Then I realised I had left a usb stick in with some data on it and the pc would not boot upon removing the usb it booted fine.
Not sure if this is a mint thing.

I actually found some more generic Linux forum posts (eg debian or mint forum) that said that there were issues with ISO burning from Linux and to use win32diskimager. Its definitely not a LinuxCNC issue and its not restricted to a specific distro.

Ok. I think we are talking at cross purposes here. There is nothing wrong with the iso or the way it was flashed.
The PC was flashed from a usb with mint and I have been using it for several months without issues.
The only trouble I have is that if I leave a usb stick in and then turn the PC on, it hangs and does not boot up if there is no USB stick in it always boots fine.
