Hi everyone!

Trying to get my conversion completed with this Covid-19 vacation!!

Got the machine built and just finished up the cabinet - wired up the steppers and they are not responding. I believe they are getting power as they lock tight when power is turned on.

Pretty sure this is the stepper kit I have - bought it 3-4 years ago: www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/produc...6050-stepper-driver/

Here is the wiring diagram I used minus the "Y" axis: www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/wp-con...014/09/ALLDriver.pdf

I did wire in a relay to start and stop the spindle motor and it does work as it is supposed to so i assume the 25 pin cable is good - i did ohm it pin to pin and it checked good.

Can you folks look over the attached pictures? I probably just missed something stupid and keep looking past it as I troubleshoot.

I do have a CNC retrofit mini mill also with LinuxCNC that I bought already built and have used for years - so I probably understand just enough to be dangerous!! LOL!

Thanks, Jeff

That picture does not help.
Do the motors lock when you turn on the power ? Try to move them by hand while powered, they should not move, at least not easily.
Upload your hal and ini files so we can have a look.
First thing would be to check the wiring to the drives, then setting the step time and step space to 10000 or 15000.
Also do you get the latency error when enabling Linuxcnc?

I am trying to add more pictures - they were too large of file sizes!

Bear with me....

Yes, the motors are locked when power is on - once you turn off the power you can turn them .
No latency error.

Microsteping can not be 1.8. Look at the drives and check at what microstepping are they set, then put that in the stepconf.
Set step time and step space to 10000, in the stepconf.
Test, repost back.

Okay, driver dip switches are set to 2 micro steps (switch 5 off, 6,7 and 8 on) - changed both X & Z stepconf to 2.0.
Changed step time and step space to 10000 in stepconf and it didn't get the motors moving. :-(

If i interpret correct you can set the 'commons' of your outputs to either gnd or 5v plus eventually pullups. Try to measure if your outputs have signals on the bourns.

Clive,

In the bottom left corner is the 5V power supply - I wired it according to this diagram www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/wp-con...014/09/ALLDriver.pdf

Am I missing something else?

Thanks, Jeff

Mike,

Are these "commons" on the BOB between outputs 2&3 {X axis} and 6&7 {Z axis} ??

How do I check them? I have a multimeter- assuming they will be 48VDC - when do I check them? When attempting to move the axis?

Thanks, Jeff
