Why Mesa 5i20 does not start? was created by pkasy
I never could find the answer to my question, maybe I do not ask it correctly.

Why Mesa 5i20 does not start?
When the computer starts, the paddle LEDs are lit on the board.

But when I try to run linuxcnc or pncconf with any firmware Mesa board immediately extinguishes the LEDs and does not work.
tell me why? what it lacks?

The LEDs going off is a good thing

(it means the card was successfully programmed by the host PC)

What makes you think the card does not work?

thank you.

Because 5i20 did not issue the outputs.

I have the same card, it is on the milling machine. On it LEDs are lit continuously.

Do you get any error messages?

I would not expect any LEDs on unless the hal file turns them on

no, I didn't get any error messages in the terminal or dmesg.
I checked the 8 green LEDs, and found I can turn on them all.

but both 7i33 and 7i37 do not act.
I can’t make enable, pid output and so on at 7i33 and can’t drive 8 output keys.

That does sound a bit more like a HAL setup error that something wrong with the 5I20

This is fresh install right after pncconf.
LinuxCNC 2.7.5

loadrt hm2_pci config="firmware=hm2/5i20/SVST8_4.BIT num_encoders=4 num_pwmgens=3 num_stepgens=0"
7i37
# --- SPINDLE-CW ---
setp hm2_5i20.0.gpio.064.is_output true
net spindle-cw hm2_5i20.0.gpio.064.out

Still sounds like a configuration issue of some kind
if the red lights go out and you dont have a startup error, the card did "start"

What linuxcnc version are you using?

Can you post your hal and INI files here?

pins 65 and 67 always ON on the board 7i37
pins 64, 66, 68, 69, 70, 71 always OFF.

if I disconnect the cable from the board 7i37, all signals are switched off.
It is something inside 5i20.

Are they on before the card is configured (linuxCNC running) ?
If so that suggests a bad (damaged) FPGA or possibly bad cable
