I've have a 7i92 connected to a G540 and C10 bob. So far, I have everything working including limit's which is all on the G540. I would like to setup a THCAD on this system. However, if I enable an encoder (pncconf modified to support a G540 on a 7i92), I loose my limit switches. I would prefer that the G540 continues to provide the limit switch inputs. So is it possible to specify an encoder on the C10 board on port 1. If I can't, then how do I connect the THCAD to the G540 on what I assume would be the input pins 10,11,12,13

Enabling the encoder(s) does not interfere with the limit switch inputs
(though pncconf may not know this)

I had to move the limit switches to the P1 on the 7i92 as the encoder uses 3 input pins.

There is no reason you cannot use encoder inputs for limit switches
the corresponding GPIO pins still work normally as inputs

That is very true, but we need those pins for the encoder to use with THCAD.
Well we need just one encoder input, but when the encoder is enabled in hal, it will use all 3 regardless.

Sorry PCW, that is not a deal breaking issue, well it is not an issue at all since the 7i92 is always inside the same box with other electronics, so adding some more wires to the P1 port is easy and simple.

Right if you need that encoder you cannot use the B pin for GPIO but the index pin can be used.

I assumed the the G540 could not use its inputs for the THCAD because they are likely too slow. In this case having an alternate encoder feature is harmless since it does not interfere with use of the encoder pins as GPIO inputs

How is the C10 board used? (I dont think there is G540/C10 firmware), but G540x2 firmware should work if just used
as GPIO+ encoder on the C10

my understanding is that the G540 is not really a great device to use for the encoder due to slow response as well as incompatiblility with the G540 input voltage from what I've been reading. A good reason to switch it over to the C10 on P1. My G540 is an older unit bought when I made my first CNC back in 2015 or so. The C10 is a new style board with surface mount components

That should be fine with g540x2 firmware as long as the C10 inputs can read to 32 KHz or so

I was not aware of that, thank you.
