7i96 ethernet problem was created by ioiotutu
Hi,
i have a new card mesa 7i96. Card is connected at ip 192.168.1.121 and i have response at ping command.
At the command: "mesaflash --device 7i96 --addr 192.168.1.121 --readhmid" the answer is:
"unsupported ethernet device ????????????? at 192.168.1.121"
"NO 7I96 board found"
If I make the same thing with my old 7i96 i have right response from the card.
somebody has the same problem?
any suggestions?
Thanks.

ip a response is the list of my pc network interfaces.
The pc address is right (192.168.1.3) and ping command (ping 192.168.1.121) is OK.

Sounds like failed EEPROM or a test escape of some kind.
You could try re-writing the name with setname:
protocol='direct'
interface='elbp16'
ipaddr='192.168.1.121'
setname 7I96

Sounds like the EEPROM is bad/failed
I would send a email to Mesa and ask for a RMA# to repair/replace the card
