7i97 firmware questions

Hi, I want to use the 7I97 for my lathe As far as I understood the Inputs 0-7 are used for four mpg inputs.
I would like to change that to 2 mpg's, So I have four normal inputs more. Is this possible?

There’s no need to change the firmware, using those 8 inputs for MPGs is optional. You can use them just like any of the other inputs.
Just keep in mind that you will need LinuxCNC 2.9 for full functionality of the 7i97.

OK it seems I misunderstood the manual.

I thought the drivers work with 2.8.1 but the auto config tools don't. it's 2.9 then I'ts just a hobby machine so what.

2.8.1 will work (the hostmot2 driver changes in master were back ported to 2.8.1)

There is no graphic setup tool for the 7I97 yet

The last config I also made without for another Mesacard and ported it to my one. This should work this time too. Especially since I have as way simpler machine.
