Hi,
Bit of a noob question but if I'm using a 7i94+7i89 do I need a firmware for this combo?
Full system is a 7i94+7i89+2x 7i84's and a 7i83.
The sserial stuff is working I think but a show pin only shows gpio lines not encoders for the 7I89.
New to this got my head around the addresses for the serial stuff only encoders and watchdog giving me grief now.

Yes, you will need a 7i89 firmware for the 7i94.
I don't see a firmware for 7i89 here:
www.mesanet.com/software/parallel/7i94.zip
I am afraid that you might have to ask Mesa to build the firmware.
I have looked at the sources and as far as I can see only the 7i89 has it's particular DB25 pinout, so none of the other firmwares (7i76 for example) would work.

(You can build your own firmware, but it's not for the faint-hearted

Here is a 7I94 +7I89 configuration. Note that you must set GPIO bit 41 low to access the parallel expansion port.

Awesome, thank you Peter
So I'd just set the pin low in the hal?
What's the best way to set up the watchdog on this combo or do the Ethernet cards not require it?

It probably start with a pncconf config for a 5i25+7I77 and change names as appropriate (driver name, analog output names (to 7I83) , digital output names (to 7I84)
etc
etc

Thanks, I may not have explained it well.
I sussed it, but it was how to set the pin low, but figured it out.
Prior to updating the firmware I had LC starting with new pin addresses I had just nulled out the encoder and watchdog lines. All seems good now with the # removed with the new firmware.
I've set the 7i94 jumper to power the 26pin lead but even with 5 vdc on the 7i89 doesn't light up. I'll recheck my settings. But if anyone has pointers on what else to check let me know.

Does the 7i89 light up with external 5V power (if jumpered to use that)
Possibly the cable is not fully populated?

Do you have 5V supplied to 7I89 P1?
The 7I89 just uses cable power to switch local (P1) power
all of its 5V comes from P1

Yeah 5vdc to 7i89. The yellow led lights up near connector.
I have the 7i94 enabled for 26 pin cable power it's also set for 5v tolerant.
The 7i89 with jumper for not switched encoder power measures 5vdc at the encoder power connection. Default jumpers for RS input differential line driver encoders.
Gpio41 is set forced false with
setp [HMOT](CARD0).gpio.041.out false
Tried false in caps and lower case. Like I said it's new to me
I'm no expert so it maybe simple.
