MEWAG with Bosch Rexroth Indramat DM 4K 1101-D drivers

This horizontal milling/deep drilling machine, from about 2002 or so, has 3 Bosch Rexroth Indramat DM 4K 1101-D drives with non fibre optic connections to what looks like a VME rack. There is a PC front end which connects to the VME crate via a serial connection.

I am wondering if I can connect to the drives using LinuxCNC? I don't seem to be able to find much out about using the drives outside of the system as is. Any info or pointers appreciated.

DM 4K 1101 seems to be incremental encoder + Sercos command input.

That's not as convenient as it could be.

A google search seems to suggest that all is not lost, some people have made it work, and there is even an academic paper on the subject.

They seem to be available with either Sercos or Analog, at least the manual mentions the two interface options

Yes, but the part number quoted suggests Sercos.
