Vacuum gauge for a vacuum plate - any recommendations? was created by knipknap
I built myself some vacuum plates like this:
To run this thing, I am considering one of these sets:
The reason being:
- They are very cheap.
- I want to use the container as a vacuum buffer so that the pump doesn't have to run the whole time.
I am missing one piece of the puzzle though: A vacuum gauge that I can connect to my interface card (MESA 7i76e).
Any recommendations?

Wrong vacuum pump, you need the other type with high flow, this one is very low flow.
You can always use a normal air compressor as a vacuum pump, just reverse the in/out pipes.
And it has a much bigger buffer, just keep in mind it will not switch off as there is no pressure at the output anymore.

Are you sure that you aren't thinking of big vacum plates that allow for leakage? The small ones are made to be actually air-tight and do not need high flow.

Your picture shows a 3D printed plate, those leak, always, although PETG should be OK for leaking with at least 5 perimeters.
Also, HIPS is very good at layer adhesion, but probably PETG is better for this.
Give it a try, might just work OK.

It's not 3D printed, it's milled from HD-PE.

Some things like this
www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005042915668....product.mainProduct
You should be able to find a LM358 low signal amplifier to bring it back up to near 24v for a Mesa analog input or simply use a Mesa THCAD-5 to read the voltage output which would be much more accurate.

Thanks for the recommendations, these sensors are what I am looking for.
Though meanwhile I realized that the plan may not work out at all, because I am not sure whether the pump has a valve to keep the vacuum when turned off.
At least I may need more parts to make this work. I guess I'll start with buying only a pump and order additional stuff step by step to improve the overall setup.

I used a similar setup. The pump will leak a bit, but not that much.
The hysteresis setting of the sensor will deal with that...

Cool, that's good to hear. I placed the order for the pump today and will see how it goes.
