Almost forgot, this is why i like Open Source software and utterly hate corporate cr@p, FreeCAD went from "usable but clunky with issues" to "beating the s#it out of commercial software" in under a year!
And just to spite heaters:
Blender is a "do it all" monstrosity terrifying the industry and adored by creators.
OBS-Studio is .... well nothing actually exists to compete or compare with it.
LinuxCNC with Axis GUI never fails.
I'll shut up now! :)

yeah right!! we use freecad to translate cad our paid software chokes on.
The cad transfer is not complete but saved us with some stuff from acad inventor files. great stp file reads and dxf also.
Have to hand it to all the people involved contribute cnc programing all the way to re-bar design. not to mention surface modeling and solids with history to match
many high $$$$$% systems. thanks freecad you save us many times.

An interesting discussion, I've used FreeCad for a while for 3D printing.  Most of the machining I do is too simple to demand intervention by CAD so far :-)

If people want information on some interesting concepts in FreeCad, here are some YouTube channels that might interest:

https://www.youtube.com/@MangoJellySolutions/videos

www.youtube.com/@CADCAMLessons/videos

There are others, but I don't want to make this too lengthy :-)

Did all this and some more 2 days ago while i was building a small 4 axis cnc machine and waiting for it's parts to print (not shown here, but the round teethed thing shown here is also for that machine).
Notice the changes on the FreeCAD GUI, made it much more enjoyable to use

If you are already here, you should really watch this, it is by far the most comprehensive video for complicated and parametric stuff.

I've been using FreeCAD for the last year as I learn CAD and now CAM. Its been a pretty good experience for me, I dont understand all the hate from the larger internet. I just chock it up to not learning any other CAD package first (unless you count Kicad).
Its been pretty cool watching it move to V1 and now beyond. It looks like CAM gets some good updates in V1.1. I might need to try the dev version one of these days.
