Ran the wizard, still no worky...5i25/7i77 was created by MacGalempsy
Greetings. This is my first post and experience retrofitting a 3 axis mill. The pci/daughter combo is 5i25/7i77, with the expectation to add a 7i84. The following is connected.
TB1 = 5v external supply
TB3 0,1,2 = x, y, z encoders
TB5 0,1,2 = z,y,z to amplifiers
TB2 = 24v and ground to field power
TB8 = 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 = estop signal, xhome/min, xmax, yhome/min, ymax, zhome/min, zmax
the encoders are 2500 counts per turn quadrature
amplifiers are copley controls 412, have yet to plug in enable (out), reset (out), and faulted (in), nor connect the tach to the motors.
However, after running through PnCConf, I went through trying to start linuxcnc, and the software errorred. If someone would please take a look at the error file, and point me in a direction to move forward, it would be very much appreciated. Here is the link pastebin.com/8d839Xpk

start linuxcnc from a terminal and show the specific error message from dmesg or axis ,
have you changed any links on the 5i25 or 7i77 perhaps
the error your getting is this :
hm2: no firmware specified in config modparam! the board had better have firmware configured already, or this won't work
you should try supplying 5v power to the 7i77 from the 5i25 via the cable . and make sure the 24v field supply is on before
attach your hal and ini file

That's normal for the 5i25. (We ought to suppress the message, really)

I agree with at , I was looking at the dmesg this morning and it took me a while to ignore that...

OK, that message should no longer appear with 5i25 or 6i25. (in Master, at least)
Now, back to the original question, did MacGalempsey get his system working?

Yes, I provided him with a sample config to get him started and just spoke with him on the IRC. AFAIK he did not get the pncconf config to work.

Sorry about the late response. The initial problem solved by using power from the 5i25. Once up and going, the PnCConf wizard did not work. Ultimately, it required using JT's generic setup file, then adding to it manually.

Hi, I tried the update utility from bogie6040 and my pncconf still doesn't show the 5i25. Thanks for any suggestions. Dave

Is the 5I25 card found at all?
lspci -nnv | grep 2718
typed in a a terminal window should find it
Other possibilities are that you dont have an up-to-date version of pncconf
