hi all
I flashed 7i96s_7i85sd.bin and i think the next step add a .xml file to PNCConfig so that i can use the wizard to configure my setup. i am unsure of how to do that or where to find a the .xml file. i know i can also do this by manually editing the HAL and INI. however when i attempted that was not very successful.
thank you

You want BigJohnT's 7i96 Configuration Tool. Search, its linked to from a thread by John on here somewhere.
Edit. Try this github.com/jethornton/mesact

I have to be doing something wrong. I downloaded his latest version and I am able to flash, verify the board, and copy to the clipboard. But after selecting the daughter it only gives me 2 encoders, five joints and no input/output.
I wonder if there’s a file I need to place somewhere.

See this thread:

You probably need to update your firmware to get the inm module for inputs

Thanks PCW
so i am not sure what directory to put that in. i assumed i put it in mesaflash to flash to the board but that did not work. i also tried several other directory locations without success. i checked for updates in the repository and tried a second time without success. not sure what i am missing or do not know. i have mesaflash saved in more than one location on my computer could that be causing a problem?

You should first install mesaflash so it can work from any directory.
This is done as the last step of building mesaflash:
sudo make install
The you change directory to the place where the bitfile is located and run the command:
mesaflash --device 7i96s --addr [your_7i96s_cards_ip_address] --write 7i96s_7i85s.bin
