I am preparing a new PC for my upcoming plasma and have 2.7.14 installed.

How do I go about to get latest Master? I am assuming this is the way to go for a Parport PC and plasma (plasmaC?)

Latest Master is now 2.9.
You could probably use 2.8, which is more stable but does not have reverse-run.

To get either version you need to add the linuxcnc buildbot to the repositories list. You can do this in the Synaptic GUI or by editing the sources.list file.

The data to enter is listed on the buildbot page:
buildbot.linuxcnc.org

You can either use (EOL) Wheezy and RTAI or Stretch with the preempt-rt kernel.

I would try the latter first and see if it gives good enough latency, as Wheezy is now very old. Unfortunately we haven't been able to make a stable RTAI that runs on a wide range of hardware with anything newer as-yet.

Tried this route gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/uspace/debian9-emc.html but get errors.

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keys.gnupg.net --recv-key E0EE663E
sudo add-apt-repository "deb buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ stretch master-rtpreempt"
Update and install LinuxCNC

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linuxcnc-uspace

But where can I find 2.8? I have no need for reverse run.
This would be a good exercise to update both mill and lathe to 2.8 so this plasma install I can play around with.

Open synaptic and go to the repositories list. (I have forgotten where is is and I am typiung this on a Windows PC, , but it's on one of the top menus then something like software sources, then the "other software" tab or similar.)
Edit the url to end with 2.8-rtpreempt
Then save, refresh, search for linuxCNC and you should see 2.8 there to install.
right-click, select install, then apply.

you shoudt consider a 7i92 at eth cnc
or even a 7i96 that eliminates most EMI effects for a plasma

i got 2 plasmas here on parport and depending on poweruse of the comunity town it is only the parport that troubles on emi #
