Update to uspace was created by PedroSMS
Hi all,

The Updating LinuxCNC documents says :

If you see (as above) -rt- in the kernel name then you are running the preempt-rt kernel and should install the "uspace" version of linuxcnc. You should also install uspace for "sim" configs on non-realtime kernels

The instructions following does not give the Repositories details for the uspace version. I have had a few guesses, but no luck.

Does anyone know these details?

I'm using Debian Buster.

Kind regards
Pedro

Thank you for your reply.

I have been there, but can't find a reference to 'uspace'

2.8 branch (stable)

Buster (arch: amd64, i386, armhf)
uspace: realtime with RT-Preempt, and simulation

deb buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ buster 2.8-rtpreempt

deb-src buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ buster 2.8-rtpreempt

rt-preempt is uspace

Thanks again for your reply.

So, the instructions that are published (as shown above) are incorrect?

Kind regards

No they are correct.

The buildbot info table gives the repo info for rt-preeempt. My last post was a copy and paste from the buildbot page.

To quote again
uspace: realtime with RT-Preempt

If you installed from one the linuxcnc distributed ISO's you should not have to worry about adding the repo info. Unless you are trying to upgrade from 2.7 then that's a different kettle of fish.

Thank you for your reply.

Given my kernel name is 4.19.0.21-rt-amd64, and the Update instructions say:

If you see (as above) -rt- in the kernel name then you are running the preempt-rt kernel and should install the "uspace" version of linuxcnc. You should also install uspace for "sim" configs on non-realtime kernels

Can you see the confusion?

Kind regards
Pedro

Seems simple, to tell the truth I've been building my own packages for Linux Mint, but the instructions seem pretty clear and concise.
