Verifying LinuxCNC ISO download. was created by Mitch66
I am just getting started and have been working through the excellent series of videos by Joe Hildreth. These videos are now 6 years old and so I think things may have moved on. When it comes to downloading the latest version from the Downloads page, Joe recommends checking the download with a check sum using md5sum or sha256sum. On the video the checksum is on the download page, as is a link to zsync - the method of downloading he recommends. This is not on the current downloads page. Do I still need to check my download (to a flash drive) before i install it on my new control computer? If this has been covered elsewhere I am sorry but I have tried searching and cannot find an answer.

Give it a try, it might just work !
Jokes aside, been many, many years since i had a bad ISO download, so if your internet provider has not throttled downloads, all should be fine.

The cheksum I get with sha256sum linuxcnc_2.9.4-amd64.hybrid.iso is:
ef0d0cc7142444d8793233e516105f0c9f3dee667cfede1539e2190b39a29060 linuxcnc_2.9.4-amd64.hybrid.iso
Which does not match the checksum listed on the getting linuxcnc page which is given as:
I have done several dowloads and thus far none of the checksums have matched.
zsync is listed as an alternative on the getting linuxcnc page. It does not find a control file that it wants on the server and it will not download linuxcnc_2.9.4-amd64.hybrid.iso.
I share your frustration.

I woud not mind betting the checksum was never updated on the last release. I am sure checksums are unecessary today.
As said, just use it!
