There is similar code here (in custom.hal)

or google LinuxCNC MPG ahl

Use the 7i96s card to control a single axis +/- 10volt servo motor.

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I already tried that and it damaged my 7i96S, I think it's very risky. The best is the solution that PWC recommends, that's how I did it and I have no problems controlling sevos with drivers that use +-10 for their control. The only thing you need to use is firmware where you replace the STEP DIR with outputs for PWM and DIR.

Can not get stepper motors to move with Gecko g250x drivers

Category: PnCConf Wizard

My 48v PSU and 5/12v PSU share the same 0v source; I have one shared set of DIN terminals jumpered together for 0v. Further, I have continuity between the ground pin 2 on the 7i96s 5v power connector and the ground pins 1-4 of the G250x.

Do I need to tie the 0v terminals to earth on the 250v main power?

Mesa cards or parallel port? And where to learn about Mesa

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Thanks everyone this has been really helpful, and I feel much more confident knowing there is a nice community willing to help. I'm going for a 7i96s.

I was just wondering if anyone knows a good way to get one of these cards to the UK, the shipping isn't insignificant.

Thanks again

Thank you very much, I'm going to try with a potentiometer connected to a 1.5volt battery for safety.

Okay I understand it's an incremental value and it's non-analog but that doesn't bother me, how do you configure Linux (find information)

Maybe wiring in hal so that stop would also trigger offset reset, when mode-is-auto pin goes false?

Interesting idea, I had forgotten about external offsets. This might offer a way to move the z-axis from hal while gcode execution is on feed hold (presuming feed-hold and feed-inhibit pins do not apply to external offsets)

[edit]
Just tried it and external offsets are indeed not affected by feed-hold and feed-inhibit pins.
So this may give you the hal tools needed to stop gcode/mdi execution of y-axis movements and raise the z-axis up to the safe height. You would then need to think about how to proceed from there. Just issuing a program stop will still leave the operator to deal with the applied external offset.

For stuff like rotation (CW, CCW) vs Forward/Reverse on the axis I would always go through the servo setup itself using the manufacturers software (here: asda soft). In fact, this is the first thing i always do.

Thanks for the answers. To be honest, I'm not sure if the SIG 1+ and SIG 1- control inputs on that CMC digital driver are PWM CW and CCW or Step/dir instead of +/- 10 volts. Any suggestions on how to test this would be greatly appreciated.

Very brief "plasmac:program-is-running" during initial homing sequence

Category: Plasmac

Just as an FYI, and'ing halui.mode.is-auto and plasmac:program-is-running did work to resolve this.

Thanks!

I searched GRBLHAL which I learned about from the FlexiHAL page. Seems like GRBL has come a long way and there is much more capability there than there used to be.

Not LinuxCNC, but might get you where you are going.

I went to that page and they seem to also manufacture or are related to an affordable and attractive sounding controller. Expatria Technologies Flexi-HAL

FlexiHAL Isolated CNC Controller for GRBLHAL and LinuxCNC

I might be interested in this one myself. When I upgrade my router table. I'm using a C&CNC Bob that they stopped manufacturing years ago.
