Hobby, Gmoccapy 2.9.4, RPi4, old turret mill, 32 mm leadscrews, stepper motors, backlash up to 130 microns.
Backlash compensation set to 100 microns.
No problem producing good general-purpose parts.
But, current job has a central bore and two sides, Upper and Lower, requiring inversion of the part midway.
The Upper and Lower have a visible offset in the vertical join, not operationally a problem, just visible and perhaps 50 microns.
Tracking down all the usual suspects, but my thoughts turned to what the backlash compensation is doing.
Is there any way of observing and/or setting the backlash compensation ?
Good practices to manage the compensation ?
I will try installing a 123 block on the table at a known position.
Set Home at that position, and Home at switch-on only in X+ and Y+ directions.
Then Touch-off in the bore only in X+ and Y+ directions for the Upper, X- and Y- on inversion for the Lower.
The new Forum looks good to me.
Short note: I tried to post the same subject on 30Oct26, now lost.
