You must set the "Fully Preemptable Kernel" option

This may not solve your latency issues buts its necessary to build a real time kernel

In my experience, isolcpus typically makes things worse with Preempt-RT

Yes, I have spent a couple of hours on google now and I understand that it is the "Fully Preemptable Kernel" that shall be used.
I think I will start from scrach with a new Mint 17.3 installation again and take one of the newer RT kernals.
I just found out that a friend of mine has used 4.6.7 and it works fine for him on a Supermicro board with J1900 cpu.

Now, finally getting close to something that can work.
Installed LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) from scratch today after work and compiled the latest RT Kernal 4.8.9
With default settings in xconfig, just set "Fully Preemptable Kernel" I now have 96 000/118 000 in latency.
I hope it shall be possible to tweek the kernal and lower the latency a bit.
Touchscreen works :)

If you are using a Mesa ethernet card, that level of latency is fine according to PCW.
Make sure the C1/C7 wait times are disabled in the BIOS and you''ll be good to go.

Yes, I use Mesa. But I found a finale solution.
forum.linuxcnc.org/forum/9-installing-li...debian-8-mint-lmde-2
Now latency is down to 30 000/90 000 and I'm not using the base thread so I'm happy now :)
I will try this out on the mill tomorrow I hope.
Case closed.

I bought a couple of RTL173 screens, made by General Touch. These are 1280x1024 screens.

I use Debian 7 and LinuxCNC 2.7.8 and gmoccapy

The touchscreen works though USB and sort of mimics a keyboard. The calibration and such can be done with the standard linux tools, I have used:
CalibateScriptForBulitInDriver.tar.gz
xinput_calibrator-0.7.5.tar.gz

Altough the screen supports the portrait mode, the calibration scripts will not work in that mode. Gmoccapy looks great rotated to portrait mode btw.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationReally happy to report that this touchscreen is working great with linuxCNC and it's a killer deal. I didn't even have to install any drivers! Capacitive and 1080P IPS too!

That is plenty of monitor for a ............price!!!!
Picture quality is not quite good, but for that price it is still a bargain !

Almost forgot, it has only analog inputs, even the DVI input is analog only, so i would not bet my life on it that it has full HD resolution.
I own a 7" one, same story, it can do 1024x768 but lcd native resolution is 640x360.

Hmm, I've been using the monitor with a HDMI to DVI adapter, AFAIK HDMI is digitial only unlike DVI. Are you sure you have a comparable model?

On that link in the picture you can clearly see the DVI port and it looks like analog only.
Today i got an HDMI to DVI adapter and got quite a surprise whet i went to plug it in, it is an analogue DVI one. I just threw it on a shelf and did not bother with it, now you made me think about it again, leme do some spiritual googling to prove me wrong ! :)
Regards,
Tom
