Has anyone successfully installed a joystick on Debian Wheezy?

That didn't work - even after an apt-get update, the apt-get install usbutils tells me the package is not available

hi
you do not need anything
open a terminal type command
lsusb
my output -> Bus 004 Device 002: ID 0079:0006 DragonRise Inc. PC TWIN SHOCK Gamepad
so gamepad is there
now the input name
in terminal type
less /proc/bus/input/devices close the view with q =quit
it is usaly the last entry
so the name is Joystick of the Gamepad
open a mashine can be also a SIM mashine
home the mashine
goto MASHINE in top bar HAL_View
type in the entryfield offcause your name "Joystick"
loadusr -W hal_input -KARL Joystick
it shoudt say HAL_input started
close the HAL_VIEW
reopen Hal_view
PINS -> input ->0
take the VIEW to discover not SHOW on the right side
click all BTN ### only the not NOT
NOW hit the Butons on the joystick
all clear

lsusb is not available- because usbutils package is not installed. Which cannot be found - an apt-get tells me it is not available

You can probably get lsusb from the archive repositories.
The problem you have is likely to be due to Wheezy being end-of-line and out of support (it is really very old)
