Thank you for these videos, they are both informative and entertaining to watch! And inspiring!
(Yes I do have my own Mini lathe of the same sort that I'm trying to get to a usable state.)

Thanks. Unless you have really serious space problem, I would recommend selling it and getting a lathe with more mass. Even the 9x lathes are much more substantial.

For the MPG Jog wheel encoder, can I take +5V from TB2-12 and the common from TB3-12, or are those not a circuit?

Check continuity between a common on TB2 to the common on TB3.
I would expect the common to be common.

The TB3 common (Input Common) is floating
If its connected to power common (negative)
the isolated inputs will sense +4 to +24V signals
If the TB3 common is connected to say +5V or +24V
its will sense connections to +5V or +24V common

Thanks for trying guys. I have read PCW's post multiple times, but still can't get my head around it. Sorry for being thick.
So If I pull the 5V power from TB2-12 to power the jog encoder, and then reference the A and B signals to the TB3-12 common like this:
1/ Can I damage the 7i96 like this?
2/ Will simple switches between Common and the other output pins then still work? I have a feeling that if TB3-12 common is a ground, then a passive switch to any of the other inputs wont work, as there is no voltage.
I got really close to finishing all the mechanical stuff today, but the touch screen is not working.
Bummer! I damaged the touch screen ribbon cable at some stage. Looks like at least 9 signals are cut, and they are way too small for me to jumper. Wonder If I can get a repalcement, or have to replace the whole €129 screen.

For the switches, the switch common should be +5V (or +12/+24V if you have it)
and the input common (TB3.12) = Ground=5V or 12V or 24V common negative
That is, the 7I96 isolated inputs require that a voltage be supplied relative to the
input common to actuate the input.

Thanks PCW. I ran out of time to go in and change that wiring, so this weeks video is not as much done as I hoped...
