Lathe dual MPG wheels who's done them ? was created by my1987toyota
So I am finally getting back to my Lathe project and I want to do dual MPG wheels so if I need to do manual work
I can. My problem is when I look down the GPIO selection tables in PNCConf. there are no selections for MPG encoders
I know I am missing something simple here and I am hoping someone has done this before so I can be pointed in the right direction
What am I doing wrong?

On the I/O connector 1 tab, if you select "7I76 Mode 2 I/O Card",
the two MPG encoders will show up on the appropriate field
input pins.

Also on the 'External Controls' page select 'External MPG Jogging'.
Adjust those choices to set up the HAL code.

My lathe has 5 x MPGs.
X and Z are mounted on the carriage
Feed override and Spindle Override on the control console
Then there is a 16-click + pushbutton one on the apron that puts the lathe in manual mode and selects the jog increment.

If you search for Spaceship Plasma, there is a full worked example on about page 3 or 4 for mesa 7i76e

well I am definitely getting closer I found the spot PCW was talking about and made the appropriate
selections . I still have some work to do . Do I need to wire in an overide switch to tell Linuxcnc
that I wish to use the encoders to move the axis ?

Just change to manual mode on the Linuxcnc screen. (Same as if you were using a MPG on your mill)
Yes a switch could be used, but make sure it's not in an area were you could press it without meaning to. Cause none of us would press a button without meaning to

major facepalm.
I found my last issue. One I have to have the machine homed before the MPG Jog Wheels will move an axis.
the last thing though is in Pncconf. The "External Controls" page I had to change the "Default" setting from 0.0000 to 0.0010
Now it works . I will do a video at some point on setting up simple dual MPG Jog Wheels .
Talk about a " cant see the trees through the forest" type scenario.
Thanks to everyone for their help . I hope this will at some point help someone else setting up Linuxcnc and the 7i76e for the
first time.
Ironically I have the " Default " again set to 0.0000 and a selector switch set to either off, A= 0.0010, or B= 0.0001.

You need to connect to the joint pins to be able to jog before homing.
I think that was one of the big changes between 2.7 & 2.8
