I've seen some other people posting similar issues, did these problems start with the switch to GTK3 or might it be closer connected to the switch to Preempt RT or a later Debian version?
I'm not really competent to determine exactly what's going on, but I did look through old GH issues - and there are a number of similar reports over the years. They go back to 2.7.
However, there may be two (or more) underlying problems which present the same - more or less - undesired behavior.
I get the sense that one of the scenarios involves switching tabs or otherwise changing window focus during a continuous jog. At the very least, something other than just pressing/releasing a keyboard key is happening.
The other scenario is what the OP reports - no change in window focus, no pop-ups, nothing but a continuous jog even though the key is released.
The two scenarios may not have anything to do with each other beyond the end result.
My suggestion for the OP would be to turn off keyboard auto-repeat in Debian settings and see if the problem continues. If the problem goes away this may point to a Debian change rather than an LCNC change.

Did this yield any results yet?

This sounds like an autorepeat issue I've experienced in the past.
To test if it is, open a terminal window, and enter the following command:
Code:xset -r
Launch LinuxCNC and jog around. If the problem goes away, that's the issue and we can come up with a more permanent solution.
To turn autorepeat back on:
Code:xset r

I have not visited the facility where the machine is located yet to test it out.

I hade the same issue with GladeVCP an Jogging already years ago. I was not able to fix it permanent:
forum.linuxcnc.org/21-axis/33925-glade-p...is-blocks-arrow-keys
It made me finally give up with GladeVCP and "downgrade" to a good old PYVCP sidepanel.
Best wishes
Jan

I vaguely recall back some 10 or more years when i was doing VCP panels for everything, i read somewhere here that GladeVCP will ignore inputs if not selected or "in focus" so i never ever used it.
If i press ESC, i want the machine to stop, i do not care if "in focus" or not, it HAS to stop.

I was able to work on the machine having the jogging problems today. I forgot/ran out of time to try the fix on it. But I was able to notice a situation that seems to always cause the sticking problem. Any time that there is an alarm or pop-up message window left open at the bottom right corner of the screen, the jog keys will stick.

Not soon. I'm on vacation with the family for the next week. I'll try to remember to do some testing when I get back.
