I looked in the hal meter (assuming we're talking the same thing). Under the signals tab > plasmac:arc-voltage-out it's showing -31.62224. I checked the scale and offset values from hal meter and they are exactly as entered in the config tab of plasmac.
Shouldn't this change when the plasma is on (remember my meter was showing actual voltage)?

And btw I agree with you Rod. Something isn't set right (by me) in the software. I'm getting voltage when the torch is firing, the connections are all physically there, but no readings whatsoever.
Also...I keep seeing a spindle pin on the encoder that looks odd.

Pretty sure its the encoder scale in the hal file with wrong sign. so you are taking the offset way from 0 volts to get negative
But look a the pin in halshow and look for a pin with encoder in its name (the one you used) then open up the velocity pin. It should show around 3800 or something but each is different. If its negative, you know what to do

I got it to flip to the positive side by making the scale value negative. BUT, the voltage does not change (even when I pulse the torch on, or run a simple gcode to cut a line). So now instead of -32 it just stays at +32v on the control panel. Something is causing it to not pick up the input voltage maybe?

If you are not seeing this count showing roughly around where your 0 volt calibration data (divided by the thcad scale position) you need to resolve that error first. Note your config may be using a different encoder number.

I do have the first one like on yours. The second one isn't in the tree for the hm2... stuff, is that your scale? mine is only under plasmac...

I think the THCAD-10 isn't communicating with the 7i96. I've triple checked the physical connections, and they match what the guide and primer say to do (although the primer example is a 7i76). I'm probably gonna just see if I can find someone who wants this THCAD-10 and go with a price THC or something else.

You are all but there. I'd be surprised if you've destroyed anything yet. (but I managed to kill a THCAD once) Using another THC would be a mistake.
you need to drill down in the hm2_7i96 tree to find your encoder. If its not there you have not told the hm2 driver in your hal file that you want to use one. So post all your hal and ini files and we'll have a look.

Oops, sorry I saw you found the pin, so we need to look at the physical connections you have used. Can you post a photo showing your wiring and also your files I asked for?
Its a bit of a learning curve, but we've already isolated a few potential faults.
