Just to make sure I am not doing anything redundant... are the LED and resistor, which come installed on these solenoids serving the same purpose? Or are the for something completely different?

Do you have the solenoid data sheet?
its odd that it has 3 terminals

The LED/resistor is just an indicator, a flyback diode is still needed
(if its not built in, which is where a data sheet would help)

It did not come with any data sheet, these are some cheap amazon parts. I did unplug the front piece and was able to tell the bottom terminal is a ground lug connection. ETA: These are 5/2 solenoids, if that makes a difference. Thanks again for your help.

Here is a link to this model on Amazon... these are the 24VDC version. It shows, in the photos, that polarity does not matter to power the device.

Looks like the connection close to the LED is positive
(if you want the LED to illuminate)

Ok, here is the updated drawing. Obviously the diode is still missing. Before I get to that, does this drawing look correct?

Nothing should connect to TB1 pin 5 (VIN)

VFIELD (TB1 pins 1..4) is where +24V power goes

Now I am really confused. I connected the power based on this schematic. Is this not correct?

I am truly confused, what is different on my drawing vs Norbert's... besides the terminal block between the power supply and mesa board?
