If you simply short the two sense wires do you get close to 0V
on ohmicsense.ohmic-volts?

There is a near full voltage when off the plate so as PCW says, there is s short somewhere.

so yeah either a short or the sense load resistor is missing
or misconnected

That makes sense! (pun intended) ... but this is a two part problem.
Before I left the shop for the day I tried unplugging the sense cable from the torch and the reading dropped to near zero. So you are probably correct about the short being caused by "crap in the nozzle". I made some simple cuts this weekend, mainly to test the downdraft, and must have gotten said crap in the nozzle.
HOWEVER (part two)
The ohmic signal is not on in the GUI... and I do not recall seeing it on. I believe I have the wiring correct, but never connected all of the HAL/Plasmac pins properly.

You would have to press "OHMIC TEST" to see the Ohmic Probe indicator light up on the GUI.

Correct. I failed to mention I pressed the OHMIC TEST button, nothing lit up on the GUI.

What is the pin that enables Ohmic sensing so the probe becomes active?
I suspect that Plasmac has changed since the component has been written or we got something wrong in the connections file.
the component will only go true if ohmicsense.is-probing is true
se lets setp it to 1 for now
