It was 14ga. I was testing a few things, but yes kerf crossing was the main purpose this evening.

Hi all,
That change to velocity dependence will solve the issue with different material thicknesses, excellent thinking. Now I only have to upgrade the old 32-bit computer to a 64-bit thing and we're off

Thanks. Once I converted dinosaurs to metric, I find your material is 2mm thick which is what I cut most of. If you care to share your settings, I'll have a play too.
It did look pretty good!

I was doing some of the testing of the code Phill posted in the branch referenced in this thread: forum.linuxcnc.org/plasmac/39980-thc-vel...lock?start=50#217736
I found the default settings (100% override, 500 slope, 2 period) produced the best results, but I tried several different combinations.
Material settings were these:

Just goes to show why people use Hypertherm. My cut speed is 2219 mm/min @40 amps or 87 in/min and that is with Thermal Dynamics, arguably the next leading brand!

A coworker talked me into buying a Hypertherm back when my Plasma journey began. Zero regrets.
And to think, that's the "Best" setting, the "Production" feed rate is 320ipm.
The fine cut (45A )is 200ipm, and the fine cut "low speed" (45A) is 150ipm, but they dont claim a dross free cut for that.

Yeh, Thermal Dynamics is still highly regarded but has more consumables in their range and you can't cut corners by just changing amps. You need to change consumables as well. I think thats where some come unstuck.
I had planned to buy a 65 amp Hypertherm like yours but then this 120 amp one turned up ridiculously cheap. eg. I paid 45Xp prices for a competitor to the Hypertherm 105 amp and still brand new. Its still chalk and cheese with my old Everlast.
