Spindle encoder connections was created by remartinez
Good morning,

I am having issues trying to get the spindle encoder working with Pathpilot. My set up is 5i25 and 7i76.
The spindle encoder I'm using is a 1024 p/r quadrature encoder. I have the wiring set up as per instructions and have it connected to the right pins in the 7i76 board. I have changed the pins on the hal file but i am going no where.

Can anyone see if they can help me get this running.

I am attaching my files.

Let me elaborate a little more.

I have encoder wired as follows on TB3 connector for spindle encoder
Pin 7 ENCA+
Pin 10 ENCB+
Pin 9 GND
Pin 12 +5v

A couple of things:

Is the 7I76 jumpered for single ended encoder inputs?
Does your encoder have an index connection? (rigid tapping and threading require this)

I have looked all over the manual for the jumper setting on the encoder and I don't see it. Do you know what jumper it is and what position it has to be?

The encoder has index connections for A,B Z

Bottom of page 2 :ENCODER INPUT MODE

Z must be connected for rigid tapping and threading

Ok I think i need glasses! Thank you for pointing me to the right page.

Where would i connect the Z to?

Z connect to the IDX+ pin (IDX is an abbreviation of Index)

PCW,

Thank you. Its working but once i go over 1200 rpm tracking drops on the encoder.
I have a 1024 quadrature encoder. pulley ratio is 1:1 max rpm's is 6000
in the ini file i have the Spindle 9 settings as
Encoder scale = 4096
output scale;e = 4096
output min limit =-4096
output max limit = 4096

Im sure the is something incorrect here but don't know what it is.

Any ideas?

Thanks again,
Raul

Scale looks OK, other entries do not.
Output scale, min output and max output should be set diferently.
If you are using Mesa 7i77 those should be set at 10, -10, 10, if i remeber correctly. Am on the phone so i can not check.

I have a Mesa 7i76. setting at 10, -10, 10 does not work. makes the spindle spin at full rpm.

The settings that Torch had are 2930, -2930, 2930. with these numbers the spindle does not spin at full RPM. But I am still having issues with the encoder as Pathpilot drops tracking the spindle over 1200 rpm.
