Update from V2.0 install to current version using 7i80

Well that was interesting. There have been major changes from V2.0 to teh current version and it scrambled teh setup. I thought I was smart by making backup copy of teh setup folder and could just copy the 7i80 setup into teh updated version.

NOPE that does not work. I ran into permission denied problems galore.

SO IF you are going to try this I suggest you install V2.0 and then imediatly update to teh currecnt version BEFORE you start to integrate teh 7i80. ALSO pick teh series3 install not teh newer Mor MX version as they appear to be WAY different in hardware setup

SO we start over again. Getting smarter each round, I have at least gotten to the point I can create motion run teh spindle and have spindle encoder setup(;-) TP

great can you tell what did the trick

you might need to get the ownership of the serrial ports

You still need to be in the dialout group though.

sudo usermod -a -G dialout $USER

did you use your own method of backup/recover or did you use PP backup/recover admin commands?

I've never run into a issue with permissions with PP backup/recover commands and it is how Tormach documents to move from version to version especially for V1 to V2 migration. This is documented in the V2 upgrade instructions

@pl7192, I believe he's referring the the Tormach Model Series3 not the serial port. the only serial ports used by Tormach are for USB devices that use virtual serial ports and those would be handled by udev rules.

Interesting thing is teh screen freexe problem went away. It idled all night without a problem.

ALSO it seems teh memory space problem has stabilized but there is precise little space left in the root.

I simply did a copy of teh config files over to a USB stick and then copied back. OBVIOUSLY that does not work in Linux. I need to write a script to do that as an auto function. I guess I will have to learn more linux that I really wanted to.

is there a reason you can't use the ADMIN SETTINGS BACKUP command?
See this doc
www.tormach.com/support/wpdmpro/td10530-...83&ind=1532036301548

covers upgrading including the backup/recover of settings

I just don't like redoing work that's already been done myself.

That seems to be a very convoluted process compared to copying 6 files to a stick before teh upgrade and back after teh upgrade.

The Average Joe needs a simple process (;-)

ADMIN SETTINGS BACKUP, pick place to save. click save to back up
ADMIN SETTINGS RESTORE, pick place to load from, click restore
that is convoluted???

Don't understand how that's not simple

From What I see teh backup does NOT back up any files such as teh HAL or INI. And I do not see where you can specify what you want backed up.

ah I see, that was the first mod I did and forgot.
edit ~/tmc/python/backup_fle_list.py and add anything you want added to the back and restore
