The `sda5` partition is the Windows recovery partition.
There is a specific procedure for removing it.
I don’t recall the exact steps, but the recovery data can exist either as a separate partition or as a file on the Windows partition. By running a few simple commands in Windows, you can copy the partition contents into a file, adjust your Windows settings, and then delete the now-unnecessary partition. You can find detailed instructions for this on Google.

As for the issue you described, it is an error in the installer; this happens occasionally, and there is nothing you can do about it.
Alternatively, you could install a standard version of Debian 13 with the Xfce4 desktop environment, and then install LinuxCNC—either from the Debian repositories or by using `.deb` files downloaded from the internet, should you need a specific version.

For existing Dynomotion KMotionCNC Users there is now a migration tool that can mostly convert a KMotionCNC configuration into a LinuxCNC configuration.

The Debian VB has a shared folder with Windows. Copy your KMotion installation to that folder. If your configuration references files outside of the installation folder copy those folders also. It is normally C:\ShareVM\kmotion

In Linux it is normally /mnt/kmotion

There is a desktop icon in Linux for the migration tool

Run the migration tool and it should find the configuration to convert. If there is more than one found it will ask you to choose. It will also ask for a name for the configuration. Here we entered TK

In this case the LinuxCNC Configuration is placed at /home/tk/KMotionX/KMotionX/linuxcnc/configs/TK/

Note that the KMotionCNC settings such as X Acceleration has been migrated into the ini file

A Desktop Icon will be created to run LinuxCNC with the new Configuration

Besides what Grandixximo advised, disabe secure boot and enable CMT.
Be warned that windows might not boot after those changes if you plan on dual boot.

Hi Bill,

I tried the 2.9.10 Trixie ISO in a UEFI VM with a Windows 11 style disk (GPT, EFI, MSR, NTFS, plus ext4 and swap made in GParted) and the installer listed the disk and all partitions, so the image itself seems fine. To narrow it down on your laptop, could you tell us:

1. The laptop make and model.
2. In the BIOS/UEFI setup, the storage or SATA mode: "RAID On", "Intel RST" or "VMD" versus "AHCI". Many Windows laptops ship with RAID/RST, and Linux installers often cannot see the disk in that mode.
3. From the live system, open a terminal and post the output of:
lsblk -o NAME,SIZE,TYPE,FSTYPE,LABEL
lspci -nn | grep -iE 'sata|raid|nvme|vmd|non-volatile'
4. What the installer shows exactly: no disk at all, or the disk without your partitions? Note that the installer does not use partitions made in GParted automatically. Pick "Manual", select your ext4 partition, set "Use as: Ext4" with mount point "/", and set the swap partition as swap.

If the BIOS is in RAID/RST mode, switching to AHCI usually fixes it, but Windows needs to be prepared for that first (boot once into safe mode) or it will not start afterwards.

New Forum Reports was created by grandixximo
Just creating a place where to post about New Forum findings. I will talk about new forum as the current one we have, we had a couple of days this past weekend where the forum upgrade was botched, many issues have already been resolved with the new upgrade

Old threads are again reachable from Google searches and external links
Attachments are again available in older threads.

 New reports I saw around

The header menu/top bar with recent topics, My topics etc is showing up vertically or not at all, I think John is already on this, might get fixed soon.
attachment are only allowed to a maximum size of 0.1MB (Don't remember, what was it set to originally?)
Forum is slow :-(
Inline code has an ugly code prefix and is purple?

Local AI is getting better and less resource hungry exponentially, still sometime before you can run something amazing on a laptop, but we might get there sooner than one might think, mostly is not having to share private info with these big companies if you run local.

Apologies about the Forum, it was updated, and the administrators are actively working on improving the experience, thank you for your patience.

So That Happened was created by my1987toyota
Well that was an interesting weekend. At first I thought either this forum got hacked or the server crashed. A lot of people on YouTube talking about
how Sam Altman thinks everyone's computer is wasting ram that should be his. And I finally try local AI.
So tommylight suggested I try LM Studio and local AI, And what do you know my laptop can run QWEN 3.5 9B without much problem.
unfortunately I run out of memory real quick. My laptop has an rtx5060 8gb vram and 16gb regular ram. My desktop has the same ram levels
just with older hardware.
I may end up getting a few sticks of DDR4 to put in my desktop to give me more headroom since bigger graphics
cards are way too expensive , not to mention Nvidia is basically removing the 5090 and 5080 from the lineup. As I understand it regular
ram works fine for AI its just slower. Since at least in the US you can get 128gb of DDR4 for under $2000 (though I will probably just go with 64gb)
I would say it's a better buy then any top tier graphics card. Plus it gives Sam Altman and Jensen Huang both the middle finger.

a lot of changes since i last posted. as my father has passed away (as of April 2006), i have taken over his shop.
This has been a blessing and a curse... as it was left is a very cluttered state, and needed much cleaning to get my machine into it. In order to get the machine in, i had to strip it down to the bare machine again, and detach the machine from the base. we than carried the base and the machine over to the new shop, and both had to be tipped on edge to fit through the doorway. But as can be seen in the above picture from June... we got it into the shop.

Then came the task of completely rewiring the machine to the original schematic, so the existing configs would still work. there is still much to do, but it works again.

i did not like the pathetic flow from the stock spindle cooling fan... so i ducted in some air from a blower that is more than triple the CFM of the stock unit sitting on the gantry beam.

I did have automatic tool changing setup and working well... but i did not like that it took up so much space out of the work-area, so i removed the rack in favor of rapid manual changing.

At present, i seem to be having many mental and physical health issues, so progress has stagnated down to a cobweb collecting halt. i hope to be able to return to this though, but i just wanted to update my post here, providing JT doesn't change the forum again and lose this post image missing /media/kunena/emoticons/24.png

Hallo zusammen,

erst einmal vielen Dank für eure Antworten!

@tommylight

I downloaded LinuxCNC 2.9.10 Debian 13 Trixie PREEMPT-RT ISO and ran the live version on my Windows 11 laptop, I used Gparted to partition the disk. I then rebooted to do the installation. The partitioner in the installation program would not recognize the internal disk I had just partitioned. I also tried the text based installer it didn't recognize the disk and it's partitions either. It there a version that will install available?
thanks

Yeah the menus need work, I was just glad after 4 attempts to get it up and running on a modern OS and Joomla and Kunena. It took a few tries to figure out the steps for each thing due to restrictions with PHP and versions of Joomla and Kunena. And WOW I just noticed the spell checker works now!
