G64 P0.002 Q0.002 helps a lot so in general changing the values is working.
When the tolerance is set at 0.1mm with G64 P0.1 Q0.1 it stops at 7.672mm when retracting and at -9.84mm when plunging ?
G61 on the other hand stops exactly at 10 and -10mm.

changing my setting to G64 P0.002 Q0.002 has fixed my unrelated problem with the velocity pins all displaying different values

The cut depth is set at 2mm but it stops short and waits till the next G1 move, and when going up that is even more off

This sounded odd to me, so I emailed Rob Ellenberg.

The blend move is pre-computed, so in single-step mode the Z axis will, indeed, stop short, and will then do the blend move and the XY moves on the next program line.

Thinking about it, this makes rather more sense than completing the Z move _and_ making a small XY move on a program line that contains no XY motion.

You might expect single-step to revert to absolute-stop mode, but this isn't the case.
