Fill the tubes with concreete or epoxy and sand, otherwise the noise from the vibrations will be unbearable.

good idee
indeed thats what we en tented the weight to the ground may be a small issue
its not clear if the structure will be iron
its a discussion to go on construction wood and get only light parts to the system

Nice project !

Can be used for Rapid Prototyping scale 1 to 1...
Maybe use a 24v motor brake on the z-axis.

pl7i92: This is all over my head, but just wondering what an overhead gantry is used for? Animation looks cool, tho'!

I would be tempted to make the cross braces full-height and have the buttresses reach all the way to the rails.
But that would mean a lot more material, probably for little gain.

Have you seen this gantry? It's just like a hobby design, but a lot bigger:

Hi pl7i91
I fear this construction will shake a lot. You have to stiffen it with diagonal truss.

agree there will be alot of more things to get side stiffnes trust me
its a start to calculate material

i only need one side open that is the main problem to get the parts in
with a forklift

maybe a rail system at the bottom and then get it in from there
we will see how it comes

the WOOD is very cheep so no pricing on that
