I nearly bought a Deckel FP41. Maybe one of you should? (UK south coast)

Spotted on eBay, a rather lovely but rather large Deckel FP41.

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164985626295

Already converted to LinuxCNC, but needing a recommissioning.

I came this >< close to buying it. In fact I put in an offer but then woke up sober and withdrew it. It would be a real squeeze to fit it in my garage, and there would be no access to service anything.

An interesting machine, though. The table is completely static, and the axis climb about over the back like a robotic monkey. This idea was also used on the Butler Elgamill, it's a good way to make a modular machine that can be very long.

A video here of it's big brother, the FP42 showing how it moves:

The FP42 has both horizontal and vertical spindles. I am not clear if the FP41 also does.

I converted a Deckel FP41 to Mach3 a few years ago and then worked with it for 5 years.
Very accurate machine, but no longer up to date (slow and old)
