Ubuntu with EMC2 acting strange

I downloaded the iso image of Ubuntu with emc2 and burned a CD. It boots on my system but when I choose the option of trying it without installing it, it takes me to a command line prompt. I don't know what to do at that point and besides, I expected a gui interface. Can anyone give me a hint as to what I'm doing wrong?

You might try starting in safe graphics mode. When you get the screen asking you to start without changing your computer hit F4 (MODES) then select Safe graphics mode.
