VERY predictable latency... 64 seconds to be exact was created by joegreen
Over the past few months I have been converting an old CNC router project using TurboCNC to a much more sturdy Bridge Mill with EMC2.
I found an IBM T43 laptop with a built in parallel port that is working great... except for one small issue. Every 64 seconds my latency (as measured by the EMC2 Latency checking program) jumps from ~7500 to ~68,000. If I happen to be jogging an axis or two when that 64 second latency spike hits the axis stalls.
I have turned off every thing that I can think of in the BIOS just to see if it influenced the 64 second time interval but to no avail..
Any Ideas?

Can anyone offer any insight on the overheating issue?
Will my internal fan be disabled? Or just never come on?
Should I force air through the system externally ? Or just not worry about it?

Usually it works with the fan stuck at high speeds.
I used a PC with SMI off without issues for a longer period of time, but there's no guarantee that your will too..
You have to try it for a while, then at least reboot and check the temperature in BIOS.
Most BIOS'es have an option to set a max temperature and shutdown the PC to prevent damage.

Alex

Success!!
Latency never exceeded ~15,000 after an hour.
The fan seems to be running as normal. Not too fast.. not too slow. Just a moderate warm breeze wisping out of the heat exchanger.
Thanks for your help!
