It doesn't load and "rmmod parport_pc" throws out an error.

I was able to load the parport_pc kernel module with insmod. But the /proc/ioports didn't change. But I found an "Error" in /var/log/messages while loading lp.
lp: driver loaded but no devices found

OK, I'm starting to run out of ideas

Check that /etc/modprobe.d/linuxcnc.conf (or probably emc2.conf) does not have the line
install parport_pc /bin/true uncommented, that would blacklist it and stop it loading.

Theres no telling if this will do anything, but it would be nice to try it

No this line looks like "install parport_pc /bin/true".

But I've got some kind of succes with the 10.04 live Version. After loading parport_pc with modprobe I found an entry in /proc/ioports for the parport. Unfortunately this version got bad results in the latency test. But I'll give it a try an install 10.04.

To clarify the line should have a hash # character in front of it, to comment it out, if it doesn't that is your problem with loading parport_pc on 8.04.

Ok this could help me to load the module in 8.04 .

Now I've 10.04 installed and the parport_pc starts properly and creates an entry in the /proc/ioports and /dev/lp0. But after stopping parport_pc this entry disapears again.

So this means that my parport isn't supported by the emc2 driver? Do you think a Bios upgrade could solve the problem?

The trick might be to not stop parport_pc :-)

You seem to be making some progress, give it a go. B) For some reason it is only the presence of parport_pc that is triggering udev to create devices, so see if Linuxcnc will run and be able to co-exist with it.

This is different to the PCI cards I mentioned, because they were detected but always shown as disabled unless the drivers were loaded and then removed once they had toggled the cards into enabled mode.

You are right that 8.04 will give much better latency, so well worth re-visiting that now you know loading parport_pc will enable the parport.

If I try to run emc2 with parport_pc running i get the error: "IOError: [Errno 32] (broken pipe) "

EDIT: Ok, this seems to be a general problem in 10.04. I'll give 8.04 another try...

Bad news: Changing /etc/modprobe.d/emc2 allows me to load parport_pc with modprobe in 8.04. But in contrast to 10.04 there's no entry in /proc/ioports generated.

Additional my last hope solving the problem with a bios-update didn't work either.
