Do you guys see anything odd about the output below? I can't get this brand new f310 device to work and my older logitech controller work perfectly. I can plug the old one into my cnc mill and cnc lathe and it comes right up and all the programmed functions work as intended but the new one barely even shows up and when it does none of the programme functions work. I can take the controller and plug it into window 8 box and with the drivers installed I can use the test functions and all the buttons and jog sticks work. It appears that logitech has changed something with this controller unless I'm missing something obvious. My hal files on both machines work consistently with the old controller but not with the new one. The only thing I see different is the Uniq entry but I dont know what it means, the working controller is blank in that field.

Hi
I don't have one of these, but my immediate guess was that the udev-rules need looking at, especially whether the product number is still the same and whether the
device / handler is the same (check what udev is creating - or not - in /dev, would expect /dev/js0 or similar)
Doing some research, a lot of people have had problems with it under Linux, in the spheres of gaming, but nothing that quite matches your problem.
regards

Hello,
I am in the process of setting one of these up n a new computer.
On mine it is not identified as "---Dual action" any more it is now something along the lines of "---X Box"
I changed the hal entry to "Box" and it was identified.
Most of the button names have changed...
I will give more info when I get to the proper machine..

I will not get back to that machine till tomorrow.
First there is a switch on the back of the controller, it will only work in one position, I believe it is X.
I would create a new test configuration that does not use the joypad and follow John's instructions here...
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Simple_Remote_Pendant
You can then use Hal to list and find the buttons and their names.
Also from linuxcnc on the test configuration you can use...
Machine
Show Hal configuration
Watch
Select the pins for the controller
Hit one button at a time to see the results.
Then edit your good configuration with the proper name for the controller and then change any button names that apply.
I made a list of all the buttons and their old and new names by using both an old controller and a new controller at the same time and watching the results.
I started to create a post a while back for these changes but have not completed it yet as I have not finished testing the new controller.

I knew about the X and D button on the back and the funny thing is once you switch the button to X and it shows up under lsusb you can then switch the button to D and it will show up in lsusb as the normal DUAL logitech device but the old button names won't work. I'll play with the controller tonight in the X position and see if it will work with my hal file with button names changed of course.
I got it working tonight and the button under the controller has to be in the X position for the controller to function. I just had to figure out the new names of the pins, actually the pin names make a hell of a lot more sense then the old controller. The main difference is the two bottom front buttons are NOT buttons anymore but analog controls so they operate like the joy sticks.
Thanks for the help, it was what I needed to figure it out.
