New build won't boot was created by mristau
(PSU fan starts and after a second stops)
See any compatibility issue with this system?
Gigabyte H61M-S2PV LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX 1333 Intel Motherboard
Intel Pentium Dual Core G2030 LGA 1155 Processor BX80637G2030
4GB Kit (2GBx2) DDR3 1333 MT/s (PC3-10600) CL9 Unbuffered UDIMM 240-Pin Desktop Memory Modules
Coolmax 300W M-ATX Power Supply CM-300
Thanks for any pointers!

Hi
Very difficult to diagnose from a distance. This covers the main points.
pcsupport.about.com/od/findbysymptom/ht/pconthenoff.htm
It sounds like it is not getting near BIOS boot stage, so the power supply in some form or other is most likely candidate.
I would disconnect the PSU plugs from the board and disks and run it to determine you have 12v and 5v everywhere you should have
(and check first that the power selection switch is on the correct voltage for your country !!)
Then reconnect and check you have voltage to the power switch, usually switching on the PSU involves connecting 2 wires together
Check that the coin cell CMOS battery is not flat.
As the guide says, take everything off and clean and reseat.
Particularly check the connections against the motherboard manual. Where there are several connectors going onto a bank of pins, it is quite easy to orient yourself
incorrectly and connect to the wrong pins.
This is a possibility if the main switch is working but incorrect connections are preventing it latching.
Good Luck

Thanks ArcEye
Have worked through your list + those in the link you suggested…
Not getting to beep codes.
There is no graphics card. (Planning to use the motherboard graphics.) Might this be the problem?
It sounds like it is not getting near BIOS boot stage
> Correct
the power supply in some form or other is most likely candidate
> Same result with a 400W PSU that I know works
the power selection switch is on the correct voltage for your country
> Verified
PSU involves connecting 2 wires together
> Yes - Have switch connected to header correctly. verified polarity
Check that the coin cell CMOS battery is not flat.
> Verified

> Sleep LED on briefly
> Power LED on briefly
> No flashes on HD activity LED
> PSU, CPU and case fans all on briefly
> Keyboard & mouse plugged in
> Pulled everything back out of case and retested with same result
> Reseat everything:
• internal data and power cables
• memory modules
• expansion cards (none)

OK - Got it.
There was a bent contact pin in the CPU socket. On a brand new board!

Well done.
Its a PITA but sometimes you just have to take everything apart again and check.
Just as well they are all zero force CPU sockets these days, or you could be in the market for a new CPU
