I'm a newby in this tipe of argument.... i use parallel port (ibm standard) in some linuxcnc project .... i already use stepper driver and brushless driver too but now i must chose other hardware (some mesa card and new type of brushless driver).

LinuxCNC command signals step and dir linedrive mode is this true? or do I have to check my parallel port anytime?

My parallel port go from 0V to 3.4 max. The second one Normaly I use only for digital input and output .... and work with 0-5Volt with push-pull resistance and usb 5V alimetation.

until now I never paid attention to this and everything went smoothly.

Parallel port outputs on the data pins (the ones normally used for step/dir) are push pull and TTL/CMOS 5V or 3.3V level
some of the control pins are open collector with pullups in some modes.

No parallel port pins are line driver type. Line driver suggests differential signaling where a pair of wires
convey each signal, Differential signaling is used for better noise immunity.
